4 Bedroom mid De Vesci Terrace House
Every now and again a property comes on the
market that is different. The Nook is such a
property. When we decided to sell our home
we asked a number of auctioneers to look at it
and all of them said they were stumped to
know how to describe this house. So we
thought.... Hey we know - we lived here
happily for nine years. Even the name should
give you a clue as to its character.
Perhaps the Tardis from Dr.
Who might do just as well for
those of you who know
what we mean. The
Nook is the complete
antidote to the Celtic Tiger
house. It looks like a tiny
terraced house but once inside you will be
surprised to find it is anything but.

Abbeyleix is the premier heritage town of the
Midlands and is an outstanding example of its
kind. Just one hour from Newlands Cross via
the M8/7 it is on a main bus route from Dublin
to Cork. It is also only a 20 minute hop to
Portlaoise train station. 35 minutes or so from
Kilkenny and Carlow. So you have lots of
choices only a short
distance away. If
you want so travel a
little further you are
an hour from
Limerick and under
two hours from
Galway and Cork.
Just log on to the
AA Route Planner
and you will be
amazed by the
many interesting
towns and
destinations all on
your door step.
Facilities
Abbeyleix has all the facilities you would expect
for a town of its size. With easy access to
crèches schools and sports of all kinds, from
golf to GAA all within walking distance from the
house. The town has also good a choice of
shops and with a petrol station and
convenience store just metres from The Nook
that opens early and closes late so you will
never be stuck. Also in less than 20 minutes
away by car you have one of the biggest 24hr
Tesco's in the country. So if you wake in the
middle of the night with the urge to buy a 50"
plasma or a pot of yoghurt you can.
First built around one hundred and fifty years
ago by Viscount de Vesci, it is part of a terrace
of houses built for workers on his estate. The
property was rebuilt and extended over the
years. In 2008 new double glazed PVC
windows and doors were put in. Part of the
ground floor was remodelled and a guest WC
was fitted under the stairs. A bespoke kitchen
was installed together with a utility room also. A
large sun-room was then added and extensive
insulation work was undertaken. Also at this
time the old bathroom and separate shower
room were replaced by news ones .
The house has an oil fired central
heating system (New Boiler) and a
new multi fuel stove in the kitchen
also heats the radiators and
water. There is also a new very
efficient multi fuel stove in the sun room, and
an open fire in the living room.
Long life decking was also installed at this time.
